Just heard this review of Red Lanterns 40 – to clarify, Guy doesn’t change the color of his power ring. He’s been absorbing rage and now it’s being drained out of him – not out of his ring, but out of him. He’s been resisting. He stops resisting and gives all the rage back, plus all the other emotions he has within – including a vast amount of hope. His own hope (supercharged by all the energy he’s absorbed) corrupts the red energy that’s overtaking the world. The ring is then rendered inert and falls off his hand, due to exposure of blue light. No changing of rules here specifically, and certainly no switching of colors within one ring.
As far as Guy calling the rings magic – it’s half sarcasm. I mean come one, the energy of the emotional spectrum as generated by conceptual avatars that died to feed the Source Wall, harnessed by batteries and rings, in the case of the red, a pool of blood? From an in-universe perspective, what are these? To someone like Guy? Is this science, or is it just dismissed sarcastically as “magic”?
